Information
Val Villano is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) with experience providing individual, group, and family therapy. She received her Master of Social Work (MSW) from Simmons College in 2012 and has a BA in Psychology from Boston University.
Val began her career working at a group home with adolescents and then a therapeutic after school program with latency-aged youth, but ultimately spent the majority of her career working with adolescents and families in a residential/educational setting. She is trained in ARC (Attachment, Regulation, and Competency framework) and SMART (Sensory Motor Arousal Regulation Treatment) and incorporates them in her daily work. Val is well-versed in working with individuals struggling with topics including complex developmental trauma, anxiety, depression, attachment issues, attention disorders, and grief and loss.
Val’s approach is thoughtful, strengths-based, and individualized to the clients she works with. She uses humor, empathy, and creativity in her practice and believes that with support, each individual has the internal capacity to reach their goals. Val’s goal for her clients is for them to gain increased agency and self-efficacy and to learn skills that can be generalized and applied outside of the therapy setting.
